Furman Connection

Our partnership with Furman University connects residents with the energy, excitement and educational opportunities of a college campus, just steps away.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) gives you the opportunity to audit classes, listen to interesting guest speakers and discover new worlds at the Furman University library. The only prerequisite is your curiosity.

OLLI at Furman University started in 1993 with 62 members taking seven courses, and has grown to 650 members enjoying almost 100 courses. But lifelong learning isn't just about classes; it's about new opportunities to learn, grow and connect. From day trips to businesses and cultural opportunities in and around Greenville, to fascinating lectures and hands-on experiences, OLLI offers refreshing ways to stay active and engaged.

Physical Activities Center (PAC)

The newly renovated Physical Activities Center (PAC) at Furman University is a state-of-the-art hub for recreational activities. It offers 12,000 square feet of exciting choices to stay active, including a large swimming pool, dance and yoga studios, exercise and weightlifting equipment, and handball/racquetball courts — there are even badminton and volleyball courts. As a resident at
The Woodlands, you'll have access to this remarkable center to maintain your active lifestyle at a reduced fee.

Hiking/Walking

Furman is participating in the "Rails to Trails" program in Greenville, which is converting the abandoned Swamp Rabbit rail line to a 13-mile trail for cyclists, runners and walkers. It extends from Linky Stone Park in downtown Greenville through the Furman campus to just north of Travelers Rest. It will be connected to Furman's existing trail system, creating a seamless transition for those on Furman's campus.

Golf

The Furman Golf Course offers 18 holes of pure challenge — including a couple of water hazards yet it's still forgiving. At more than 3,000 yards, it makes for a day well spent with friends.
